The purpose of Project development phase is to utilize time period between tender request and contract negotiations by developing the vessel concept to a more defined level to minimize technical and commercial risks of the project. The main focus in this phase is further refinement and verification of developed design principles with more detailed calculations and design.
Optimizations are applied as much as possible in the development of the above features. The General arrangement (GA) with the aid of a 3D product model, will act as a coordination model for all design activities. The model will be developed to a level where most of separate spaces will be identified and defined. The design will be updated until it can be seen that design criteria and targets can be reached. Specific studies are conducted when needed and the outline project documentation is finalized.
In this phase on basis of the first proposals from a number of yards and an evaluation of their proposals a short list of yards is typically made and more detailed discussions are started with the selected yards. This work could end in a LOI (Letter of Intent) with the shipyard or at least a project performance clarification.
